How to Buy Clothing in YOUR Best Colors & Style

Way back in 1983, my Mother had her ‘colors done.’ That is, a friend of hers was a consultant with a new service called Color Me Beautiful, and she came to our house, armed with the most beautiful colored swatches of different colors. She carefully draped the colored swatches around my mother’s neck and told my brother and me to observe how my mother’s face either lifted or was drawn downward, depending on the colors she used.

You would think that to an untrained child’s eye, we would not be able to spot the difference, but I did right away!

The color consultant determined my mother be an Autumn and from then on, when choosing her clothing colors, my mother went with the warmer, russet colors that the autumn season brings. They looked beautiful on her warm skin, hair, and eye coloring!

And that was the end of that, or so I thought…

I have always loved style and creating great outfits, not just for me but for others too!

Helping my friends choose the best outfits for an event is one of my favorite things to do, so it was serendipitous when I got the opportunity to become an Image Consultant. I quickly learned even more about finding the best colors that suit the unique skin tone of people and how to find the best styles for different body types.

When a client makes an appointment with me to have a color analysis and figure consultation, I have them fill out a questionnaire to get an idea of what their goals are.

We spend about an hour draping different color swatches right below their faces, then I choose color coordinates that best match their hair, skin, and eye color.

After that, we take a series of measurements of the client’s body and they discuss different ways they would like to appear in their clothing.
For instance; If someone who is short would like to appear taller, I can give them examples of how to dress to give the illusion of longer legs. This is called Illusion Dressing and it is so much fun to watch the difference it makes in your appearance!

When the coordinates are chosen and the measurements are taken, the client returns home and I get to work.

In about 2 weeks, I ship her a book made just for her figure and a color palette for her unique coloring. We then make another appointment to go over everything. I want my clients to know exactly how to use their new stylebook and color palette!

The stylebook is FULL of different clothing styles that would look great on the client’s figure and the custom color palette makes it easy to shop for what they need.

And that brings me to the next topic; Shopping!

Have you ever heard of the shopping service called Stitch Fix?

It is the best! Using your stylebook as a guide, you can go into Pinterest and make a board of different styles that would flatter your figure.

Once on the website, you enter in colors that you would like to receive and notes to your stylist along with sizes and information about your lifestyle. You can link the Pinterest board that you made so that the stylist can have an idea of what you like.
